Rescheduled to Closing Day - June 14th

The season is almost over and we wanted to take this opportunity to tell you about our plans for a very special day we have planned for Closing Day, June 14th at Nike Park.

Great Falls Little League has one fundraiser a year. In years past, we have had a 'Bat-a-thon'. This year we intend to have a skills competition for CP through Majors for both softball and baseball. The competition will include thowing, fielding and batting. A perfect score would be 300 points. We will have a sponsor sheet (Ms Word Format or Adobe Acrobat Format) that is presently ready for download. The details of the game/competition will be posted shortly. The objective of this event is to raise money for our league so we can continue to create and sustain the environment we have.

Nike Park Day is called what it is to bring attention to the beautiful park that we are fortunate to have. We will have a festive environment and will have music, tents, a great menu, moon bounces, pictures, games and a picnic environment. The event will last all day and into the evening. I hope you will plan on joining us.

As you know, GFLL is the largest but not only tennant of the park. We are taking the lead in planning such an event with hopes that other sports might choose to join us in future years so the entire community can participate. We feel improvements made to Nike Park benefit us all, not just baseball.

Our goal this year for GFLL is to clear $40,000 and this is how we hope to do it. We have approximately 550 kids in our league. We are hoping to average $100 per child in sponsorships. We have approximately 50-70 kids in T-ball and would love to have them involved but have not quite figured a way to do so because they are so young. We will have a silent auction at the event in hopes of off setting the money we otherwise would get from t-ball. Our event might cost us $10-$14,000 allowing us to net $40,000.

Here in GF we are all a little sensitive to fundraising and what the funds are used for. Funds raised at this event through baseball will be used for baseball. We will actively solicit participation from other sports to help us off set costs we have been absorbing in the pasts.

GFLL has the lowest registration fee of any other sport. Money raised will help off set operational costs and assist with the following improvements:

  • Field Adoption - this year GFLL went from a partial adoption to a full adoption. We gained additional access to the fields and now have better control over their usage. We now determine whether games will be played when facing borderline weather and we have gained access to fields earlier in the year.

  • Sheds - we now have storage sheds at N2, N1 and N6 (softball field)

  • Coach Pitch Home Run Fence - We have ordered a home run fence for Coach Pitch so these kids can feel what is is like to hit a real home run. This should be here in a few weeks.

  • Pitching mounds - We are building mounds and bull pens at both the baseball and softball fields so more kids have the opportunity to learn how to pitch and don't have to be on a field to do so.

  • The Grange Field - this use to be a semi-pro baseball diamond. We are making improvements to this field so we can increase its usage and efficiency. This will take pressure off other fields that we have to drive further to.

  • Sodded infields and improved turf maintence - in years past our infields would burn out. This is a safety hazard as the surfaces became sparse and inconsistent.

  • Improved uniforms - this year we tried putting nicer uniforms and jerseys on the kids playing in the majors. The feedback has been outstanding.

There are many more things we want and are trying to do. We do this for the betterment of basebal/softball in our community and for Nike Park, the flagship of our athletic facilities. Your help and cooperation is greatly appreciated.
